AWS releases a public preview for Linux- based Bottlerocket. This new feature is the new open-source (OS) for hosting containers on virtual machines or bare metal hosts in the cloud. It also efficiently installs package updates on containerized apps.
The benefits of using the Linux-based Bottlerocket are:
- Will make the automation of package updates more efficient for users, such as Amazon EKS
- Users can use Bottlerocket as an open-source host for AWS EKS Kubernetes clusters
- Is efficient, and secure to use because only include what is necessary to run containers
- Most components are written in Rust, which increases security
