Apple acquires Intel’s 5G modem business for roughly $1 billion dollars. This new agreement provides many advantages for Apple; it gives them more creativity for innovation, speeds up their development process, provides them with more expertise in cellular modems, allows them to integrate parts of the 5G modem into their existing processors, and it also provides them with better negotiation opportunities with other 5G patent holders. Intel plans to focus on developing technology for Apple for the 5G network, and also continue to remain committed to developing modems for computers, IoT devices, and self-drving cars.
